Economic Benefits & Compensation | Environmental Impact

Wind farms improve our environment by producing electricity without air pollution. The increase in power without adding acid rain pollution creates a positive impact.

Using a 1.5 megawatt (million watt) wind turbine as an example, and placing it in a Class 3 wind region, we can expect the wind turbine to eliminate each year:

  • 12.5 tons of Nitrous Oxide, an acid rain pollutant
  • 36.8 tons of Sulfur Oxide, another acid rain pollutant
  • 4845 tons of Carbon Dioxide, a Greenhouse Gas.

To get the same impact, we would have to:

  1. Take 970 cars off the road (that’s 11,400,000 miles of driving a year)
  2. OR plant 540,000 full grown trees!

By purchasing electricity for your home from wind turbines and other non-polluting sources of green power, you are doing the same as:

  1. not driving your car 20,000 miles a year
  2. taking 1.7 cars off the road
  3. Or planting 950 adult trees!
